Tourism India is a large industry in India. According to calculation of The World Travel and Tourism Council tourism generated approximately 6.4% or $121 million of the nations GDP in 2011. It was the responsible for 39.3 million jobs, 7.8% o its total employment. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the tourism industry has expanded 228% in 20 years (between 1990 and 2011). Tourism India industry is predicted to increase annual rate of 7.6% in the next decade.
